Tibetan rug making is an ancient, traditional craft passed down through generations of skilled artisans. Our collection of Tibetan tiger rugs showcases this heritage, hand-woven from Himalayan highland sheep’s wool, called changpel, using techniques that have remained largely unchanged for centuries.

The Tibetan tiger rug is one of the most iconic designs in Tibetan textile art. Tiger motifs were traditionally used in meditation practice, believed to symbolize power, protection, and the taming of the ego — which is why tiger rugs were historically placed beneath meditating monks and practitioners. Beyond tiger designs, our collection also features Tibetan dragon rugs, lotus flower patterns, the eight auspicious symbols, Tibetan Yak motifs, and Tibetan Dorje designs.

Tibetans traditionally used these rugs for many purposes, ranging from flooring to wall hangings to horse saddles, though the most common use historically was as a seating carpet for prayer and meditation. Today, a Tibetan rug serves the same purpose for modern practitioners — as a meditation mat, an altar covering, or a striking piece of home decor.

These handwoven carpets work beautifully in a living room, meditation altar, or spiritual room, adding both visual warmth and symbolic meaning to the space. A Tibetan tiger rug or Tibetan prayer rug also makes a deeply meaningful spiritual gift for friends and family — well suited for Thanksgiving, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas, or New Year presents. Few gifts carry the same blend of craftsmanship and spiritual significance.

Whether you’re furnishing your own meditation space or choosing a gift for someone on their spiritual journey, our Tibetan tiger rugs and Tibetan carpets offer an authentic piece of Himalayan tradition, hand-woven by skilled Tibetan artisans in Nepal.
